Education & Outreach

The new Indepen-dance Education Programme informed by a 10 week action research project in four Glasgow primary schools, offers a unique and invigorating approach to inclusion and dance. The pilot project was part of the Scottish ACE Learn Fund and was written by education specialists Diane Goldsmith and Jasmine Pasch.

The programme presents a range of workshops that will help you deliver the four capacities of the Curriculum for Excellence and using a cross-curricular approach, dance and movement are linked to other elements of the eight curriculum areas. Each workshop is tailored to the individual needs of all your pupils and is presented by experienced tutors.

Indepen-dance develops inclusive workshops where links exist between mainstream and ASN schools. Where a link does not exist we can support you in creating one.

Outreach

Our outreach work takes the form of  one-off workshops, class blocks, training events/continued professional development, tailored projects or special performances. Here are some samples of the current projects which are provided by Indepen-dance.

Dance Classes for Adults with Disabilities

This weekly creative session adopts a person-centered approach to dance, using music and props to assist. Working individually, in small groups or as a whole class, participants have the opportunity to explore dance in a safe and friendly environment. The emphasis is on sharing and having fun!

“Express yourself through dance”

These classes are for adults with disabilities, carers, key workers & family members, so come and join us in expressing and exploring our bodies through dance and music. You will be given the freedom to experience, explore and create movement together.

The sessions will be in a safe and fully inclusive environment. They will be led by two of our experienced staff who will guide every individual in developing their creative skills and find new ways in which your body can move. These classes are fun, enjoyable, great to keep fit and meet new people.

Through workshops, projects and tailored packages we share our practice and knowledge within the field of dance and disability to allow others (whether an individual or group) who may never have experienced the unique way that Indepen-dance works to participate in our programme of work.
